A-G Requirements

A. History/Social Science

     2 years required

   1 year of World History

                  and

   1 year of US History

B. English

     4 years required

   4 years of College-preparatory English composition and literature.

C.  Mathematics -

     3 years required

     4 years recommended

   3 years of College Preparatory Math including: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II or higher mathematics

D. Laboratory Science

    2 years required

    3 years recommended

                 UCs require two years of science within the disciplines of  Biology, Chemistry, or Physics

                 CSUs require one year of a Biological Science and one year of a Physical Science

E. Language Other than English

    2 years required

    3 years recommended

   Two years of the same language

F. Visual and Performing Arts

    1 year required

 

   1 year required for a visual and performing arts

G. College-Preparatory Elective

      1 year required

   1 year/ 2 semester of elective coursework for any area on approved A-G course list.

   Students can use an A-F class they have already taken which exceeds the minimum requirement for that particular area.

   For example, a 4th year of math can be counted as a college prep elective if no other class has fulfilled this requirement.

NOTE: Taking the A-G courses is NOT the only way to satisfy these requirements. You also meet them by completing college courses such as at a community college, SAT, Advance Placement (AP), and ACT. If needed, refer to your counselor to further discuss these options.

Grade Point Average

The minimum GPA is 3.0 for California applicants and 3.4 for nonresident applicants.
